Pringles Can Designer Dies, Buried In a Pringles Can

Fredric J. Baur was designer of P&G's Pringles container Chemist had a hand in many products BY REBECCA GOODMAN | RGOODMAN@ENQUIRER.COM

COLLEGE HILL - Dr. Fredric J. Baur was so proud of having designed the container for Pringles potato crisps that he asked his family to bury him in one.

His children honored his request. Part of his remains was buried in a Pringles can - along with a regular urn containing the rest - in his grave at Arlington Memorial Gardens in Springfield Township.

Dr. Baur, a retired organic chemist and food storage technician who specialized in research and development and quality control for Procter & Gamble, died May 4 at Vitas Hospice. The College Hill resident was 89.

He developed many products, including frying oils and a freeze-dried ice cream, for P&G. The ice cream was patented and marketed, but didn't catch on. "Basically, what you did, you added milk to it, put it in the freezer and you had ice cream," said his son Lawrence J. Baur of Stevensville...

Oakley "SI" Minute Black Polarized

"And one said mine were fake."

On the box:

SI Minute Black w/Grey
Polarized

-

I thought I lost this one a while back. Only to find it all the way on to my big brother's backpack. And I just got a new pair! Oh well. Also got into a heated argument that mine were fakes. I am not an Oakley buff... but I'd know what's fake and what's real... it's all down to craftsmanship (for me)... "Foakley's" are have coarse finishes and also crappy paintwork. But I did some more research on why my O's didn't have the "Oakley" name on the front. And I did wonder why. ;) Got my pair in Dubai, in an Oakley store.. but still. Mine was different than the other Minute's that I have seen. And on the Oakley site. They only show the one with the Oakley brand on the front.

It is plastic. So it's easily fake-able.

Well, my pair is the Oakley "SI" (Standard Issue or 'Signature') series. But I would think it's "Standard Issue" since this seems to be the 'tactical' or 'Government Issue' models. An...

From The Register:

Telco firm, Coke sponsor Filipino crucifixion festival
"It really is the real thing"

Filipino phone outfit Smart Telecommunications and Coca Cola will be soaking up the goodwill today as key sponsors of a mass Good Friday crucifixion in the Philippines.

The City of San Fernando’s annual Good Friday re-enactment of Christ’s Passion is set to include not one, not three, but 23 real live crucifixions, as eager penitents seek to emulate Jesus by being nailed to crosses. Other slightly less committed penitents will restrict themselves to a thorough scourging.

Church and civil authorities actually frown on the practice, but the citizens can’t seem to get enough. So, the local government has decided to go with the flow, and restrict itself to ensuring the nails are sterilised and that all the crucifixees have a tetanus shot.

Smart Telecom and Coca Cola have apparently struck some kind of sponsorship deal with the government of San Fernando. Presumably this will help ban...

Nairobi National Park - Nairobi, Kenya

From Wikipedia:

Nairobi National Park is a national park in Kenya. It is located approximately 7 kilometers south of the centre of Nairobi.[2] Nairobi's skyscrapers can be seen from the park.[3] The park is unique in being a protected game reserve within the boundaries of a major city. Lions, cheetahs and rhinos can be seen in the park. Over 400 species of birds have been recorded in the park. The park's animals are separated from the city by only a fence.

The park covers an area of 11,721 hectares of savanna grassland with a dry climate.[1][4] The park's northern, eastern, and western boundaries are fenced. Its southern boundary is formed by the Mbagathi River. This boundary is not fenced and is open to the Athi-Kapiti Plains. There is considerable movement of large ungulate species across this boundary. The Kitengela Conservation Area is located immediately south of the park.[4]

Mouse traps... effective.

=== WARNING ===

There's an annoying <strike>dead</strike> mouse running around my room. And 'they' (yes, there's more than two of them...) are nibbling on my food stashes. Making weird noises at night... and most of all... eating through my USB cables. That had to stop. And they had to be........ eliminated.

So... I got myself a mouse trap. Like the one you see in those Tom and Jerry cartoons. And yes, I put cheese as bait. =) And, in less than 3 days. It popped three of them.

I only have two, since someone took out the first kill.

Yeah, so. These simple wooden mouse traps really are effective. Not effective against rats (w/c is bigger) though. They just drag it along until it falls of. Yes, we have bigger ones. And one that is I think a mix between the common rat and my siblings' gerbil or hamster... or whatever... running around
